Known for their upright lookout posture, Meerkats live on the grasslands in the southern quarter of Africa, where they work together to create thriving communities. Their populations are stable and their conservation status is Least Concern.
History: Meerkats have an incredibly complex social structure. They live in groups of up to 50, but only one pair breeds. The rest have several roles to ensure the young are able to survive.
